Do solar panels need to be washed in Ireland?
In most cases, not regularly. Thanks to Ireland’s frequent rain, solar panels usually stay fairly clean on their own. For most homes, they only need attention when there’s a clear issue, such as:
- bird droppings
- leaves or moss
- pollen build-up
- traffic grime
- coastal salt
- a noticeable drop in performance
The best approach is simple: check them once or twice a year, monitor output, and only clean them if they’re visibly dirty or underperforming.
A few good rules:
- Don’t climb onto the roof yourself
- Avoid pressure washers and harsh chemicals
- Follow installer guidance and warranty instructions
- Use a professional if access is difficult
So the short takeaway: in Ireland, solar panels may need occasional cleaning, but they usually don’t need routine washing.
